3 Takeaways You Must Read From “When Things Fall Apart”
Pema Chödrön guides us in her masterpiece to minimise negative things and to bring more awareness to our daily lives. Here are my 3 takeaways:
Fear is a universal experience. Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth. No one ever tells us to stop running away from fear. We are very rarely told to move closer and to become familiar with fear.
We don’t know anything. We call something bad; we call it good. But really we just don’t know. After an event happens, we have to gain perspective. Time will tell us if it was good or bad and the impact in our new reality. Sticking with that uncertainty, getting the knack of relaxing in the midst of chaos, learning not to panic — this is the spiritual path.
Not causing harm requires staying awake. Part of being awake is slowing down enough to notice what we say and do. The more we recognise our emotional chain reactions and understand how they work, the easier it is to refrain from emotionally charged decisions. It is a more fulfilling way of life when we stay awake, slow down, and notice.
Pema want us to be real, happy whatever the circumstance, and aware in the present moment. Don’t be too busy to live life! We don’t sit in meditation to become good meditators. We sit in meditation so that we’ll be more awake in our lives.
